ABOUT US
Durham University Gospel Choir was set up in 2011 as a society wanting to bring something a little different to the University music scene. From humble beginnings with a regular line-up of just eight singers and a drum, the choir now boasts more than 40 regular members from all areas of the University.
From post grad Maths to first year Music, all students are sincerely welcome to audition. Auditions ensure that we maintain a high quality of musical performance in a fun and lively choir setting. We aim to reach a diverse range of venues in order to share our love of this music. Members are not required to be religious nevertheless our ethos reflects the roots of gospel music: community, love and joy.
Our performances have spanned the length of Durham, including many of the University colleges and even the Cathedral. We are always looking for new opportunities to share our music throughout the year, from market square busking and Durham community or charity performances to Christmas carol concerts, balls and events. A few of our performances include the Durham Christmas market, the Christian Union Carol Concert in the Cathedral, our annual Gospel concert in the summer term as well as almost every college summer ball!
We are very excited to see where the new academic year will take us - we have some very exciting things planned, so make sure you watch this space!
